Fundación Somoto

The remote municipality of Somoto is part of the dry corridor in northern Nicaragua.  It is an area characterized by poor soils, bad farming conditions and lack of employment opportunities, which combined lead to high levels of extreme poverty.

To address these issues, Fundación Somoto started their relationship with Kenoli in 2019, working on projects aimed at diversifying family food production. Training has included: soil conservation practices, preparation of organic pesticides, production, collection and conservation of native seeds, improving water infrastructure, and raising poultry. The results are visible! Families have learnt to locally produce their own food in order to ensure better nutrition for the whole family.   It is remarkable work that is changing the trajectory of these families lives.
