Today, high up in the mountains of Nicaragua, we stood with the villagers of El Portón, watching raptors glide overhead and celebrating something just as powerful—the arrival of clean water.

A year ago, when we first visited this remote community, the villagers shared their struggle. Their only water source was an open mountain stream, full of debris and contaminants that threatened their health. They asked for help, and together, we made a plan.

The whole community worked together with Kenoli’s partner, ODESAR, to make the water project a reality. They joined forces with the municipality and the local health unit to construct a system that now delivers clean drinking water—24 hours a day.

Today was a moment of joy and pride as we gathered to inaugurate the project. Leading the celebration was Francela, a young and inspiring master of ceremonies, who spoke beautifully about the power of water—how it sustains life, strengthens communities, and, in this case, has transformed her village.

This is what change looks like when people come together. Clean water, a healthier future, and a community that now knows just how much it can accomplish.
