From Desperation to Empowerment
Due to climate change, water, and economic crises, many low-income families in Cabañas face food insecurity. They do not have sufficient quantity nor diversity of food to feed their families. This causes desperation as families do not know what to do.
ADES is working with 30 families in El Izcatal and Flor Amarilla to provide healthier food and develop their leadership potential. Twenty-five family gardens and five diversified plots provide vegetables, fruit, and medicinal plants. Fifteen chicken coops provide sources of protein and income through selling the excess eggs. Families learned about healthy homes through training on hygiene and healthy practices. Eight families built a latrines with the support of ADES. These simple changes give the families dignity.
The families have learned about their human rights and land rights, further empowering them.
From desperation, the families have become empowered!
