COFADEH

Defending Human Rights

Since the 2009 coup d’etat, human rights abuses have escalated in Honduras, a country where 28% of the population lives in poverty and 16 % in extreme poverty. Those who stand up for their rights, can find themselves harassed, attacked, criminalized or even murdered.

COFADEH is a key organization that supports human rights defenders. Its founder and Executive Director, Berta Oliva, has been recognized internationally by the Tulip Award.

COFADEH works extensively with the media to gain visibility about the human rights abuses in the country. With Kenoli support, they also provide psychological, legal and emergency support for human rights defenders, and training in security measures.

It is difficult work, but COFADEH is one of those organizations that can speak “truth to power”.
