Fundación Somoto
The remote municipality of Somoto is located in the dry corridor of northern Nicaragua. This area is known for poor soils, challenging farming conditions, and limited employment opportunities, which collectively contribute to high levels of extreme poverty.
In response to these challenges, Fundación Somoto initiated projects aimed at diversifying family food production across three communities. Training initiatives focused on soil conservation practices, preparation of organic pesticides, production, collection, and conservation of native seeds, improvement of water infrastructure, and poultry farming. The results are tangible! Families have learned to locally produce their own food, ensuring better nutrition for the entire family. This impactful work is changing the trajectory of these families’ lives.
Congratulations to Fundación Somoto for their remarkable efforts!
